Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam—a once-in-a-lifetime obligation for every physically and financially able Muslim. This practical, day-by-day guide breaks down every ritual from 8th to 13th Dhul Hijjah with Quranic references, authentic Hadiths, and crucial tips for Pakistani pilgrims.
Before beginning, understand which form of Hajj your group or visa package is registered for:
Performing Umrah first during the Hajj months (Shawwal, Dhul Qadah, early Dhul Hijjah), exiting Ihram completely, then entering a fresh Ihram for Hajj on 8th Dhul Hijjah. Requires sacrificial animal (Dam/Hady).
Entering Ihram for both Umrah and Hajj together without breaking Ihram in between. Pilgrim remains in continuous Ihram until 10th Dhul Hijjah. Requires sacrificial animal (Dam/Hady).
Entering Ihram with the sole intention of Hajj. No Umrah is combined. Mainly practiced by residents of Makkah (Ahl al-Haram). No sacrifice is obligatory, though optional is commendable.
Follow the Sunnah timeline followed by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ during Hajjat al-Wada:
پہلا دن: یوم الترویہ (منیٰ روانگی)
“Entry into Ihram from Makkah hotel and departure to the Mina tent city.”
“The supreme pillar of Hajj (Al-Hajju Arafah), followed by night under the stars in Muzdalifah.”
“The busiest and most blessed day: 4 key rites executed in sunnah sequence.”
“Pelting all three Jamarat pillars in sequence and staying overnight in Mina.”
“Throw 21 pebbles across all 3 pillars after Zawal. Option to leave Mina before sunset.”
“Final stoning for pilgrims staying the 3rd night, followed by the Farewell Tawaf.”
If any of these four is missed, Hajj is invalid and cannot be compensated by animal sacrifice (Dam):
Entering the sacred state with explicit verbal intention and Talbiyah before the Miqat or inside Makkah.
Being present inside the boundary of Arafat anytime between Zawal on 9th Dhul Hijjah and Fajr on 10th.
Performing the seven obligatory circuits around the Kaaba after standing at Arafat (10th to 12th Dhul Hijjah).
Walking the 7 laps between Mount Safa and Mount Marwa with the required intention.
Wuquf at Arafat is the central pillar of Hajj. The Prophet ﷺ declared: "Al-Hajju Arafah". If a pilgrim fails to be in Arafat before Fajr on 10th Dhul Hijjah, their Hajj is missed. They must turn their intention to Umrah and repeat Hajj in a subsequent year.
Under updated Saudi Ministry of Hajj guidelines and Pakistan Ministry of Religious Affairs policy, women above the age of 45 may perform Hajj in organized, reputable group tours without a blood Mehram, provided written consent or travel companionship standards are met.
The Sunnah order is: 1) Stoning Jamarat al-Aqaba, 2) Animal Sacrifice (Qurbani), 3) Halq or Taqsir (Haircut), 4) Tawaf al-Ziyarah & Sa’i. Doing them in different order due to logistical delays is permissible according to the majority of contemporary fatwas.
Pack a lightweight prayer mat, unscented soap and Vaseline (for anti-chafing), a small pebble bag, slip-on sandals, power banks, prescribed medication with original doctor prescriptions, and your official Nusuk badge.
